Cherry Kitchen Under a Vaulted Ceiling
A full run of made-to-order cherry cabinetry worked around a vaulted ceiling, a skylight and a wide garden window.
The island does most of the work in this kitchen. It carries the prep space, the seating and the visual weight of the room, so the surface had to be something that could take the traffic and still look like the best thing in the room.
Around it, the perimeter cabinetry is deliberately quieter: raised panel doors in a warm timber, a glazed cabinet on the corner to break up the run, and open shelving where the wall turns toward the window. The chandelier and the stone were chosen together, which is usually the right order to do it in.
The kitchen is not just another room, it is where the family actually lives, and it tends to reward being planned that way.
