A customer brought in an advertisement torn from a magazine and asked for the cabinetry in the photograph. We used it as the guide and built it in.
The room gave us two things most kitchens do not: a lot of height and a lot of daylight. Both of them had to be worked with rather than against, so the wall cabinets step up to meet the vault instead of stopping in a flat line halfway, and the run under the window stays low and open so nothing blocks the glass.
The cabinets are cherry throughout, raised panel, stained and finished in our own shop before anything went in the house. A glazed corner cabinet turns the angle where two walls meet, a louvred appliance garage keeps the toaster and the coffee maker off the counter, and the wall oven and microwave are built into a single tall run so the working surface stays clear.
Solid surfacing runs the length of the counter and around the sink, which sits under the window where the light is best.
